Gainesville, Florida to Acworth, Georgia
We still had time for one last small hurrah of a bike ride before calling the vacation quits, although the weather wasn't looking particularly cooperative today, so we had to get a move on.
One more bike ride
About an hour north of Gainesville, we stopped at Big Shoals State Park, just off US 41 in White Springs, and rode the Woodpecker Trail from the Little Shoals entrance to a canoe launch on the Suwanee River and back, for 7.5 miles. It was an enjoyable ride, but the wind kicked up midway through, and the rain was just beginning.

We stayed on US 41 through Jasper, an unfortunate little town that Tom unfortunately visited in the '80s, got on I-75 long enough to visit the Georgia Welcome Center, got off again at Valdosta for a drive through town but found little to look at, and then blasted north on I-75 for the rest of the day. It rained off and on (mostly on) all day, finally letting up just before we reached Atlanta. Thank goodness for the rain reprieve, because even on a Sunday evening, the traffic through the city was INTENSE!
We were only three hours from home, but after Atlanta, we called it quits. At 7:30 we got a room at a Days Inn in Acworth, Georgia. The following morning, we relaxed until checkout time and drove the rest of the way home, picking up Bosco the Friendly Dog in the afternoon.
Total driving miles: 2,171
Total biking miles: 184
THE END
