Tom's aunt and uncle, Alice and Joe Kawan, had been inviting us to visit them at their home in California since I (Jana) first met them almost 20 years ago. This year we finally accepted! They live in Rancho Mirage, California, in the Palm Desert/Palm Springs area. Conveniently, this is just two and half hours from San Diego, where my oldest nephew, Chris Neighbors, and his fiancee, Kelsey Kaline, reside, and certainly we wouldn't be that close to their neighborhood and not stop by. Alice and Joe also live very close to Joshua Tree National Park, which we've long wanted to see...

Tom and Jana in Paradise

Allegiant Air - Greyhound of the Sky. Our flight was scheduled to leave Knoxville at 2:39 but left two hours late and somehow lost another half hour en route. We arrived in Las Vegas at 6:30 p.m., picked up a little gold Hyundai Elantra at Advantage just after 7:00, and drove off into the darkened desert toward San Diego. The airfare was cheap, the traffic was light, and we are on vacation!
