Palo Alto / Stanford University
Dad and Joan, Chris and Jake, and Tom and I went out for breakfast
this morning. Ebs had recommended an eatery down the street from
the Sheraton, but since it was Mother's Day, it was a no-go. We
ended up with a fine breakfast at a Denny's a few miles away.
After breakfast, Chris headed back to L.A., via a microbrewery, as
I understand, and Jake took the rest of us on a walking tour of
Stanford. Tom and I were here two years ago, but it was Dad and
Joan's first time. Stanford has a beautiful campus. Why didn't I go
to college someplace with palm trees? We went up in Hoover Tower
for a bird's-eye view of campus, then hammed it up among the
statues.

Jake dropped us off at our hotel, and we made plans to meet again
for dinner. Tom and I had some errands to run to get ready for the
next few days in Yosemite. Mainly, we needed a cooler and some
groceries. After the shopping, we did a bit of nearby sightseeing,
finding our inspiration from RoadsideAmerica.com. The Alien Trompe-l'Oeil Murals were
lame, the Naked Running Car Statue was cool yet underwhelming, but
the Body of Urban Myth and the other artwork at the
Cafe Riace (200 Sheridan Avenue, No. 102, Palo Alto) were
great!

In the evening Jake and Ebs, Dad and Joan, and Tom and I went for
dinner at Crouching Tiger Restaurant in Redwood City. Jake
and Ebs are quite the Chinese food fans after spending their fall
semester last year at Stanford's sister university in China. The
food was really good. Jake and Ebs were excellent hosts for our
Palo Alto visit!
We visited for a while back in Dad and Joan's hotel room, then we
all took our leave. Tomorrow the folks start toward home, Jake and
Ebs have class, and Tom and I head to Yosemite!
