John Yarbrough Linear Park Trail

We had another late-sleeping, lazy morning at Bill and Patti's before I jumped on my bike to explore the neighborhood, riding about 4 ½ miles while Tom lazed a littler longer. The weather today was in the mid-70s and sunny. A person could get used to this!

In the early afternoon, Tom and I headed out to ride the John Yarbrough Linear Park Trail. The path runs along the east side of Bill and Patti's neighborhood, with convenient access via a connecting gate, without having to drive to a trailhead.

Ten Mile Canal

The Linear Park Trail runs for six miles through a corridor of green in the heart of Fort Myers, buffered from the busy streets between a canal and a railroad right-of-way. At one point, the trail crosses the very busy Daniels Parkway, but it does so at a traffic light and crosswalk, so not too dangerous.

On our ride, we saw birds, turtles, fishermen, and three large iguanas. The southern section of the trail is shady and lush with vegetation, while the northern section is more open, with a lot of sun. By the time we returned to the house, we'd ridden 13.6 very pleasant miles

And one more

After cleaning up from the ride, the four of us drove over to Fort Myers Brewing Company, where several many beers were had. The beer selection was great - the best brewery of our entire trip!

In the evening, Patti made tacos - a personal favorite - and we shared a bottle of homemade wild raspberry mead that Tom and I had brought from home. Then we called it an early night. Tom and I have a big day planned tomorrow!
