Fort Matanzas area, Shore Drive Waterfront Park
Since we arrived at our Funny Farm apartment after dark last night, I'll post the pictures today. I can't decide if our hosts bought knickknacks and furniture to fill the apartment or if they bought the apartment to display their knickknacks. Either way, the place is eclectic and so much fun!

We'd missed some scenery while driving in the dark, so this morning we backtracked south on the A1A to just beyond Fort Matanzas, stopping at several beachside and riverside public areas to look around. At one point we pulled over when Tom thought he spotted a shark, which turned out to be a dolphin. Cool.

In the afternoon, we went bike riding along Shore Drive Waterfront Park in St. Augustine South, enjoying gorgeous views of water, marshland, live oaks, and palm trees.

Matanzas River
St. Augustine South is bounded on three sides by the Matanzas River and Moultrie Creek. It was nice to find a waterfront neighborhood not dominated by mansions. In fact, one house we rode by was made entirely of shipping containers! When we returned to our car at Lewis Point, we'd biked 9.2 miles.
My, what big feet you have!

After loading up the bikes, we drove over to the St. John's County Fishing Pier, where we thought we'd do another ride. We'd planned to bike along the hard-packed beach sand, but it was high tide, and the only exposed sand was too soft for biking. Instead, we ended up riding through a nearby neighborhood for another 4-plus miles before calling it a day.

Back at the Funny Farm, we unloaded our bikes and bike rack from the car and put it all in the foyer next to the random portrait of Abraham Lincoln. Tomorrow we're going into the densely packed downtown historic district, and it will be easier to park an unburdened auto.
