Clinton, TN to Pittsburgh, PA

Today, we drove through Upper East Tennessee, across the western corner of Virginia, and then north through West Virginia, finally reaching Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, in just over 520 miles. I'd never been to Pittsburgh, and Tom hadn't passed through for years, so we thought we'd check it out.

Lodging: Hyatt Place, Pittsburgh-Northshore, for two nights. Very comfortable and the location was great! We didn't need to move our car the whole time we were here. Plus, both nights were free with my credit card rewards. Winning!

Pittsburgh is located at the “Forks of the Ohio,” where the Allegheny and Monongahela Rivers join to form the Ohio River. Our hotel was on the north shore of the Allegheny, near the three-river confluence, and between the Pittsburgh Pirates ballpark and the stadium where both the Pittsburgh Steelers and the University of Pittsburgh Panthers play. There were two Pirates games and a Panthers game while we were here. It was a lively weekend!

Southern Tier Brewery is just steps away from the Hyatt Place. After we sat down for dinner, we realized we'd been to a Southern Tier Brewery before, in Cleveland, but we didn't mind going again! The pastrami sandwich and burger were great, and the Oktoberfest beer was awesome.

After dinner, we walked along the Allegheny River past the Pirates ballpark and across the Roberto Clemente Bridge to downtown, enjoying the perfect late summer weather. Pittsburgh is beautiful! I had no idea.

Fun fact: According to local lore, Pittsburgh is home to 446 bridges, more than any other city in the world. I will simply add: depending on what you count as a bridge. In any case, it is a LOT!
