Ahhh, September... a fantastic time to travel! The weather is still mild, with the last gasps of summer and the first wisps of fall, and families with children are off the roads and back home settling into the school year. The perfect time to get out and about, this time to West Virginia! It was Almost Heaven...
East Tennessee is so close to West Virginia, yet we've spent very little time there over the years. What a shame! On this trip, we dedicated ten full days to the Mountain State and still barely scratched the surface, covering only a portion of the eastern half of the state. We need another ten days! Then another!
Small clarification on the “very little time in WV” assertion: Tom actually lived in a small town in the eastern panhandle of West Virginia for a year over three decades ago, but that was so long ago, it was like a previous lifetime...

On this journey, we brought along our bicycles for some up-close-and-personal rides through the wilderness of West Virginia. Also, we caught a few sights in Virginia on the way to and from WV, plus made a last-minute stop at Cumberland Gap National Historic Park, at the intersection of Virginia, Kentucky, and Tennessee, on the way home.
