At the southern end of Georgia's coastline, the “Golden Isles” include the four barrier islands of St. Simons Island, Sea Island, Jekyll Island, and Little St. Simons Island, along with the adjacent mainland port city of Brunswick. Of the four actual islands, only St. Simons and Jekyll are open to the public, the others being privately owned.
We rented an airbnb on the edge of the Turtle River in Brunswick for four nights, just a 20-minute drive from both St. Simons Island and Jekyll Island. Plus, in order to break up the eight-hour drive between our home and the Golden Isles – and because we'd never been there before – we spent a night in Greenville, South Carolina, on our way to and fro.
