Welcome to Tom & Jana's 2015
Oregon & Washington Travel Journal!
A short two weeks in the Pacific Northwest, exploring
beaches, rivers, gorges, caves, deserts, forests, waterfalls,
volcanoes, and glaciers.
When first planning a 12-day trip to the Pacific Northwest, we
had grand ideas of how much of Oregon and Washington we'd be able
to cover. We even thought we might make it into Canada for a day or two. But as we
learned more, those thoughts turned out to be wildly
unrealistic. There's so much to see just in Oregon, we barely made it to
Washington at all, and we left with many areas of interest still
unseen. No regrets, though. Everything was gorgeous and amazing,
and I can't wait to visit this area of the country again!
Highlights along the way include the Columbia River Gorge,
Bonneville Dam and Lock, Mt. Hood, the north and central Oregon
coast from Astoria to Reedsport, Umpqua Scenic Byway, Crater Lake National Park,
Bend, Newberry National Volcanic Monument, Crooked River Back
Country Byway, McKenzie Pass-Santiam Pass Scenic Byway, Smith Rock
State Park, John Day Fossil Beds National Monument–Painted Hills
and Clarno Units, Mount St. Helens, Mt. Rainier, Portland, and the
Long Beach Peninsula.
